International Students Earn Academic Honors

Ladysmith High School released first quarter's A and B Honor Rolls. Our international students had a combined A&B honor roll grade point average of 3.47. That is adjusting to their new school and culture very well. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Sigrid Stensvold and Mariah Stoll for their excellent showing at the State Swimming and Diving meet. Mariah finished as seeded with an excellent 200 Free swim. Sigrid had the honor of placing the highest of any Trident Swimmer or Diver with her 6th place finish in diving. She is the first Trident to stand on the Podium. Thank you everyone for your support.

The LHS Fine Arts Department will present “The Lilies of the Field” this weekend. Performances are tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30. Cost for students is $5 and adults is $7.

High School boys and girls: This Sunday is the last time for open gym—time is 5:00 to 7:00.

October Students of the Month

Five Students Named Students of the Month

Freshmen Katelyn Kleutsch, sophomore Brice Lehman , juniors Cody Lehman and Nicole White, and senior Brittany Hess were recently named Ladysmith High School’s students of the month for October. A teacher must nominate the student and provide the rationale for the nomination. Approval for each student nominee is determined by a vote at the monthly faculty meeting. All five students were nominated for their academic diligence, positive attitude, and willingness to help others. Congratulations!

State Bound Swimmers

Congratulations to Sigrid Stensvold and Mariah Stoll for qualifying for the Wisconsin State Swimming & Diving Championships. Sigrid qualified in diving and Mariah took first in the 200 free style. The state meet is this Friday and Saturday in Madison. Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!

For those wanting to help with Bingo at the Ladysmith Nursing Home tomorrow (Nov.9), you need to get your activity pre-arranged turned into Mrs. Kuehn today. If you signed up in Student Services, you must see Mrs. Kuehn today.

The LHS Fine Arts Department will present “The Lilies of the Field” this weekend. Performances for this wonderful production will be Friday and Saturday night at
7:30. Cost for students is $5 and adults is $7. Come enjoy this award winning performance.

All cast members of the Lilies of the Field should be on stage and in costume at 6:00 tonight for newspaper pictures.

Congratulations to the Trident Swimming and Diving Team for a great Sectional meet. They finished 4th out of 15 teams and qualified Sigrid Stensvold (diver) and Mariah Stoll (200 free) for State. Also making the top 8 and the podium were: 200 Medley Relay-Stoll, Zimmer, Fuse, and Molstad, Kelsey Podgornik 200 IM and 100 Back, Mariah Stoll 100 Free, Jamie Fuse 100 Fly, Sigrid Stensvold 100 back and 400 Free Relay: Zimmer, Fuse, Helgeson, and Stoll. Thanks for your support all season and now it is on to STATE.

Seniors: Stop by Student Services—Updates are needed on what you are doing with post-secondary school visits, applications, scholarships, and other information. You should stop during your study hall or lunch hour today. Remember to check out of study hall before you come to Student Services.

Kevin Brown, a representative from Nicolet College, will be here Friday (Nov. 12) period 3,in room 711 to speak on Culinary Careers. There is room for a few more students and if you are interested in this presentation, you will need to get a pass from Student Services.


There are two scholarships available: The Herb Kohl Scholarship which is due no later than November 12 (this Friday) and the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship with a deadline of December 1st which requires some work to complete so you need to stop into Student Services ASAP.

General:

If you are interested in helping with Bingo at the Ladysmith Nursing Home next week Tuesday (Nov.9) you should pick up an activity pre-arranged from Mrs Kuehn in building 7 and return it to Mrs. Kuehn by Monday and there is a limit on how many students will be able to go.

Seniors: The Jostens representative will be here next week Wednesday, (Nov 10), during the lunch hours in the cafeteria. He will help you fill out your order form for your graduation announcements, gowns, and other senior items. Please remember to bring your order form and the $30.00 deposit.

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

High School boys and girls: Open gym at the HS has been set up for Sunday’s from 5:00 to 7:00 and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30. This schedule will run through November 14.

Athletics:

Attention all football players: your recognition night will be next Tuesday, November 9, from 7:00 to 8:00pm in the high school cafeteria.

Meetings, practices, etc:

Attention Spanish Students: There will be review sessions next week (Nov 10 & 11). Listen on Monday for the schedule for these sessions. Spanish 1: Wed before school at 7:45 and after school at 3:35.

Spanish 2: Thurs. before school at 7:45 and after school at 3:35. If you have any questions about Spanish, come to one of these sessions to get the help you need to be successful in Spanish class.

Congratulations to the winners in the Anti-Smoking Poster Contest-first place posters were done by Shianne Larson and Brooke Potter. Winning posters can be seen the bulletin board by the Health Room. Another Conference Championship

Congratulations to the Trident Swimming and Diving team for their Conference Championship last weekend. This is the second year in a row the ladies have won the meet. Our swim team ended with a score of 319, Lakeland had 280, Colby/Abbotsford 187, Medford 170, Tomahawk 148, Whittenburg/Burnamwood 120, and Rhinelander 78. The Trident team took the lead after the 200 IM and never let go. There were some excellent swims and it was a very competitive meet. Making all conference was the
1st Team with Mariah Stoll 100 Free, Sarah Helgeson 500 Free and the 200 free relay of Zimmer, Molstad, Fuse, and Stoll. The 2nd Team was 200 Medley Relay of Stensvold, Zimmer, Fuse, and Stoll, Mariah Stoll was 200 free and Sigrid Stensvold 100 backstroke. Honorable Mention went to Sigrid Stensvold 200 IM and Hailey Zimmer 50 Free. Good luck at sectionals. The Divers will be at Hudson this Friday and Swimmers on Saturday at Stevens Point.

General:

This evening the Middle and High School Choral Music Departments will present their fall concert. You will be entertained by the 6, 7, and 8 grades and the High School choirs as well as the LMS Tone Chime Ensemble and the LHS Hand Bell Ensemble. The concert will start at 7:00 and should last less than 1 hour, giving you time to enjoy a great performance and still get home in time for the last ¾ of Monday night football.

Athletics:

Congratulations to Andi Ostenso on placing 10 out of 152 runners at the Division 2 State Track meet last Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids. A special thanks to all the team mates and fans that made it down to cheer and support Andi. We hope to take a team of runners next year to state. Anyone interested in cross country running should talk to Mrs. Olson or one of the runners, and start running now. Team members are reminded of the awards burger night at Tee-Away tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6:00. Any uniforms and warm-ups not turned in can be brought to the banquet and turned in.

Any girl interested in going out for the basketball team this year must sign up in the Library today. Today is the last day to sign up. Also, any girl basketball player interested in buying team shoes, they will be available in the cafeteria immediately after school.

Volleyball recognition night will tonight in the cafeteria from 5-6 pm. All team members are expected to attend and anyone who wishes to support volleyball is also invited.
