Nordic Ski Team Update

The LHS Nordic Ski Team consists of an International Cast. 17 athletes total representing the USA, Korea, Mexico, and Norway are on our team. International students are: Marianna Morales Rodriguez, Alicia Torres Porras, Natalia Cobos Guasch,
Martin Boye, Yoon-gi Koo, Hye-jeong Yang, and Jinan Lee.

So far we have had pretty poor luck attending competitions due to poor weather conditions and cancellations. However, we are going to be in Hayward for the next two Tuesdays for meets. Other meets are scheduled for the later part of January and the first couple of weeks in February. In addition, 10 members of the team are
preparing for the 23km Kortelopet ski race during the International American Birkebeiner Race on February 26th (more info at birkie.com). Athletes are coached by Matt Bunton, and Brian Groothousen, as well as other volunteers from the Ladysmith Area Trails Association. The team will also be having a number of team dinners on the days prior to the competitions.

Students practice 4 to 5 nights per week after school either at the high
school lighted loop or other area trail systems. Many of the students have
never skied before this winter and have made tremendous gains in terms of
technique and stamina. Considering that this is our first year, we are
really progressing incredibly well.
