General:

Congratulations to the winners in the Anti-Smoking Poster Contest-first place posters were done by Shianne Larson and Brooke Potter. Winning posters can be seen the bulletin board by the Health Room. Special thanks to Mrs Bricco who did an excellent job judging. Remember “Smoking is like paying someone to kill you!”

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

High School boys and girls: Open gym at the HS has been set up for Sunday’s from 5:00 to 7:00 and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30. This schedule will run through November 14.

Athletics:

Today is the last day to sign up for the Winter Dance Team. Sign up in the Library by 3:30 today.

Congratulations to Rachel Rands for making the Heart of the North all conference team for volleyball.

Meetings, practices, etc:

There will be a Senior meeting 4th hour today with Jostens.

Thee will be a very important Winter Dance Meeting this Friday at 7:45 in the Health Room. Only the students who signed up in the library may attend. If you will be gone on Friday you need to see Mrs. Olson.

Play: This weeks backstage work schedule: Today and tomorrow is 3:45 to 5:00 and Sat. from 9:00 to noon
Next weeks backstage work schedule: Mon. and Tues. from 5:00 to 8:30
Wed. from 3:30 to 5:30 (plus daytime performance)
Thurs., Fri., and Sat. from 5:30 to the end
Sun. from 1:00 to 3:30 (Sunday is mandatory for all cast and crew)

Student Services:

The Herb Kohl scholarship is available now and has a deadline of November 12, which is a week from this Friday. If interested, stop by Student Services for more information. Also the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is in and has a deadline of December 1st. A LHS student was awarded this last year— there is no reason it can’t be won by another LHS student this year. You will need to get started on these scholarships as soon as possible as there is some work to do stop in Student Services for details very soon.

Reminder that there is Sophomore WKCE Testing today periods 2 thru 4.

Seniors: If you are planning on attending a technical school or university, you should be working on completing your applications. If you need assistance, stop in Student Services.

Shop with a Cop has been set for December 11th (second Sat. in Dec.) from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Student volunteers are needed. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, stop in Student Services.

Check out the Student Services Bulletin Board. You will find information on available scholarships and their due dates. You should check the bulletin board daily for updates.

The Freshman FB scrimmage scheduled for Cumberland tonight has been cancelled. There will be practice.

Students: You will be voting for Homecoming court during first period today. Staff members are asked to please return the ballots to Cindy Krings or Shelly Diamond as soon as possible.

Girls Golf did a fantastic job at our Conference Meet yesterday. We had four golfers post their 18 hole personal bests. As a team we took 3rd at the Conference Tournament and ended up 4th in conference points. The difference between our fourth and a second place finish was only 7 strokes. We also had two girls make all conference. Congrats to Haley Seifert and Tiffany Nelson.

Students taking the ACT should see Student Services for a test prep packet.

Seniors: Rockwell Automation will be accepting applications for the high school intern position until tomorrow (Sept 24). If you have good computer and communication skills, see Student Services or Mrs. Kuehn for details.

The new Forensics topics have been announced for the Storytelling, Public Address, Special Occasion Speech, and Moments in History categories. If you are interested in these topics, see Mrs. Chopp for specific information.

Juniors interested in taking the PSAT need to sign-up Student Service. The test day is Wed., Oct 13 and cost is $14.00. Deadline to sign up is Sept 30th.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship is open to all students in Grades 9 thru 12. The theme is: “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” For more information, stop in Student Services. Also, other Scholarships are starting to come in, make sure you stop by Student Services and see what is posted.

LHS Homecoming Dance will be held from 9 PM until midnight after the homecoming game. The cost for admission is $7.00 however if you bring a canned food item, the admission is only $5.00. The dance is semi formal. If you are bringing a non LHS student, you must sign them up in the library no later than this Friday by 3:30.

If you have ordered a homecoming t-shirts and did not pay for it—you need to get your payment turned into Student Services, Kayla Nyseth, or Tori Ostenso as soon as possible.

Sprit week is next week and the activities will begin. The dress up days are as follows:
Monday: “miss match day”
Tuesday: “gangster day”
Wednesday: “extreme weather day”
Thursday: girls will be “fairytale day” and the guys will have “redneck day”
And Friday is show your school spirit with “purple and gold day”.


And don’t forget the powder-puff football game that will be played next Friday on homecoming. If you are interested in participating, you need to sign up on the student council bulletin board located outside of the library.
