General:
Girls Volleyball open gym will be held each Sun. night from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ladysmith Elementary School. All girls interested in playing are welcome to attend.
Jostens will be coming to LHS on Thurs. March 31, during 5A and 5B lunch times to pass out graduation orders. You have to pay your balance in order to pick up your Jostens items.
The Career Cruising website added six new occupations to the Explore Careers section this month. Like all occupation profiles in their database, these new profiles include multimedia interviews with two individuals working in the field and detailed information that can help you better understand the occupation.
The new occupations are:
- Amusement and Recreation Attendant
- Electronics Engineer
- Fire Investigator
- Proofreader
- Post-Secondary Education Administrator
- Volunteer Manager
The website and our district’s user information is posted in all computer labs.
Reminder to be using the Career Cruising website to not only learn about jobs, training and education programs, but help you search for a summer job!
There will be an ATV Safety Class that will be on April 19 and April 21 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM and April 23 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This will be at the Ladysmith Library. Seniors, there is an additional local scholarship that has come in. It is open to a senior from Hawkins or has connections to relatives in Hawkins. You must have good grades, really want to go to school and has a financial need, gets along and is helpful to others. Deadline is today Fri., March 18.

In any student wants to enter the Doodle 4 Google Contest, see Mrs. Bricco for details and our school’s registration code.
All students who participated in the Empty Bowl Project first semester need to see Mrs. Bricco ASAP.
Any student from the 1st OR 2nd semester Global Studies classes who is interested in attending the upcoming “Festive of Nations” field trip, must see Mr. Novakofski or Mrs. Chopp to sign up by the end of the week. To be eligible, you must be passing all of your classes, and not have outstanding detentions.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, are you looking for a gift for that special someone or a friend? Well you can fix that problem and support Prom too. Feb. 9 thru Feb. 11 you can purchase a rose for $3.00 or a carnation for $2.00 before school. All proceeds benefit the 2011 Prom. Flowers will be delivered on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 during third hour.
Seniors interested in the NUE Outstanding student scholarship should see Mr. Jansen to get the appropriate form and information. This scholarship needs to be completed by Wed. Feb. 16.

Also, there are still spaces available on Feb. 9 to receive help completing the FAFSA application. Stop by to check times
The Rusk County Community Foundation has (3) $500.00 grants available for a project which will fill a school or community need. The deadline for the application is Feb. 11 - See Student Services for the application.

Attention Forensics members!
There has been a change to the date of the Forensics DISTRICT competition in Eau Claire. This year, it will be held on March 14. SUB-DISTRICTS are still being held in Rice Lake on Feb. 17.
Seniors are reminded to bring in a baby picture of themselves for the senior slide show today. Give to Mrs. Peggar in the library.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, are you looking for a gift for that special someone or a friend? Well you can fix that problem and support Prom too. Feb. 7 thru Feb. 11 you can purchase a rose for $3.00 or a carnation for $2.00 before school. All proceeds benefit the 2011 Prom. Flowers will be delivered on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 during third hour.

Congratulations to the winners in the Anti-Smoking Poster Contest-first place posters were done by Shianne Larson and Brooke Potter. Winning posters can be seen the bulletin board by the Health Room. Special thanks to Mrs Bricco who did an excellent job judging. Remember “Smoking is like paying someone to kill you!”
The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.
High School boys and girls: Open gym at the HS has been set up for Sunday’s from 5:00 to 7:00 and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30. This schedule will run through November 14.
Athletics:
Today is the last day to sign up for the Winter Dance Team. Sign up in the Library by 3:30 today.
Congratulations to Rachel Rands for making the Heart of the North all conference team for volleyball.

There will be a Senior meeting 4th hour today with Jostens.
Thee will be a very important Winter Dance Meeting this Friday at 7:45 in the Health Room. Only the students who signed up in the library may attend. If you will be gone on Friday you need to see Mrs. Olson.

The Herb Kohl scholarship is available now and has a deadline of November 12, which is a week from this Friday. If interested, stop by Student Services for more information. Also the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is in and has a deadline of December 1st. A LHS student was awarded this last year— there is no reason it can’t be won by another LHS student this year. You will need to get started on these scholarships as soon as possible as there is some work to do stop in Student Services for details very soon.
Reminder that there is Sophomore WKCE Testing today periods 2 thru 4.
Seniors: If you are planning on attending a technical school or university, you should be working on completing your applications. If you need assistance, stop in Student Services.
Shop with a Cop has been set for December 11th (second Sat. in Dec.) from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Student volunteers are needed. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, stop in Student Services.

GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM is held each Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm at the elementary school. Any girl's interested in playing volleyball are welcome. You do NOT have to be on a high school team in order to participate. Come and join the fun!
REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE APRIL 10 ACT is March 5. Juniors who have not previously taken the ACT should register for the April test. You may register on line at act.org or you may pick up a registration packet in Student Services. The next test date is June 12. Juniors should take the ACT prior to the fall of their senior year.
STUDENTS: There will be a Science ACT Test Prep on March 17 during periods 7 & 8. The English ACT Test Prep will be on March 31 during periods 1 & 2. The Math ACT Test Prep will be on April 8 during periods 6 & 7. Be sure to stop in at Student Services to pick-up your ACT Test Prep packet.
FRIDAY, MARCH 5 IS LUMBERJACK DAY: Students, be sure to sign up for Lumberjack Day activities on the bulletin board outside the library by Wednesday, 3:30. Let's get everyone involved and have a great day! Students, don't forget to wear your best Lumberjack or jll costume. $20.00 will be awarded to the best dressed Lumberjack and jill.

THE LHS STUDENT COUNCIL is sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood Drive. This is on Thursday, January 14 beginning at 9am. You must be 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent and meet other guidelines to qualify to donate blood. Please check the Student Council bulletin board for more information or see Mrs. Krings or Mrs. Diamond. The sign up sheet and prearranges are in the library with Mrs Peggar. Give the gift of Life!! Look for upcoming announcements concerning the blood drive.
STUDENTS TAKING THE ACT IN FEBRUARY, APRIL, OR JUNE are asked to sign up in Student Services in order to accommodate for ACT prep sessions. Please sign up as soon as possible.
DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU SIGN UP FOR FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH or if you are currently enrolled, you qualify for fee waivers for the ACT, Compass Exam and college applications? For more information or to pick up an application, stop into Student Services.
