General:

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

There will be no after-school Forensics practice at all on Thursday this week. Please reschedule with Mrs.Chopp ASAP.

Registration for Forensics Sub-District is due next Tuesday. Be sure that Mrs. Chopp has the full title and author of your pieces, and the correct spelling of all group members’ names.

The Animal Shelter is raising money to build a new facility in Ladysmith. New t-shirts are being sold for this project. If you would like to buy a shirt to support this Fundraiser, College Success students will be available all week in the am and at B lunch. Cost of the shirts is $12.00. All sizes are available. See Nicole White or Jennifer Stone for more information.

Students and staff donating blood today remember to bring your photo ID with you or your driver’s license. Students who are 16 need a parental consent.

There will be an FCCLA meeting Friday morning at 7:45 in room 711.

Students that will be taking the ACT in February or April are encouraged to sign up for an ACT Prep session on Tuesday, January 25th at 8:l5 a.m. All students who are taking the ACT in February or April stop by Student Services and sign up. LHS math, science, and English departments will be conducting ACT Prep reviews during the school day prior to the test dates.

All 2nd semester CNA students there will be a meeting on Friday morning at 7:45 in the Health Care Academy Room at LHS. This is mandatory for all students taking the class. Please see Mrs. Krings if you are not able to attend. Bring all your paperwork and physicals if you have them.

The Rusk County Community Foundation has (3) $500.00 grants available for a project which will fill a school or community need. The deadline for the application is February 11. See Student Services for the application.

The College Success students are holding a fundraiser today for the animal shelter. Our Local Animal Shelter runs solely on donations, and they would appreciate any donation you can give.

The LHS Student Council will be sponsoring the annual blood drive on Thursday, January 13, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. You must be 17 years of age or 16 years of age with a signed Red Cross parent/guardian consent form.
Students and staff are welcomed to give the gift of life. For more information please stop in the library. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Krings or Mrs. Diamond.

Student Services has a job opportunity for a student willing to tutor a middle school student 2-3 days per week after school in a variety of subject areas. Please contact Mrs. Opelt for more details. Tutoring will begin after the holiday season.

Band members: Your fruit orders will be here today and must be picked up in the auditorium after school today from 3:30 to 6:00.

FCCLA is selling candy grams. Think of that special someone you appreciate or someone you would just like to send one to. FCCLA is selling candy grams for .50 and they will be for sale before and after school until next week Tuesday. You can also stop in Mrs. Harelstad’s room to purchase the candy grams. You can write a message to include in the candy gram and it will be delivered to the person you purchased it for. All proceeds are going to the Children’s Network.

Student Council and HOSA members working at the manna meal tonight should report to the Hope Lutheran Church after school. See Mrs. Krings with any questions.

Students taking the ACT should see Student Services for a test prep packet.

Seniors: Today is the last day Rockwell Automation will be accepting applications for the high school intern position. If you have good computer and communication skills, see Student Services or Mrs. Kuehn for details.

The new Forensics topics have been announced for the Storytelling, Public Address, Special Occasion Speech, and Moments in History categories. If you are interested in these topics, see Mrs. Chopp for specific information.

Juniors interested in taking the PSAT need to sign-up Student Service. The test day is Wed., Oct 13 and cost is $14.00. Deadline to sign up is Sept 30th.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship is open to all students in Grades 9 thru 12. The theme is: “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” For more information, stop in Student Services.

The varsity volleyball team lost 3 sets to 1 in 4 very close games last night with Cumberland. The Jills lost the first two sets 21-25 and 23-25, they came back to win the 3rd set 25 to 13 before dropping the last set 22-25. The B and C teams both won their matches 3 sets to 1.

Seniors: Be sure to check the window by Student Services for more scholarships. It is updated when new scholarships arrive and some of these scholarships have a deadline for when they need to be turned in.

LHS Homecoming Dance will be held from 9 PM until midnight after the homecoming game. The cost for admission is $7.00 however if you bring a canned food item, the admission is only $5.00. The dance is semi formal. If you are bringing a non LHS student, you must sign them up in the library no later than 3:30 today.

Tuesday: “gangster day”
Wednesday: “extreme weather day”
Thursday: girls will be “fairytale day” and the guys will have “redneck day”
And Friday is show your school spirit with “purple and gold day”.


And don’t forget the powder-puff football game that will be played next Friday on homecoming. If you are interested in participating, you need to sign up on the student council bulletin board located outside of the library.

GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM is held each Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm at the elementary school. Any girl's interested in playing volleyball are welcome. You do NOT have to be on a high school team in order to participate. Come and join the fun!

ACT STUDY SESSIONS: There will be a Science ACT Test Prep on March 17 during periods 7 & 8. The English ACT Test Prep will be on March 31 during periods 1 & 2. The Math ACT Test Prep will be on April 8 during periods 6 & 7. Stop in at Student Services to pick-up your ACT Test Prep packet.

THE KIWANIS SENIOR BANQUET is April 14. All seniors are invited to attend. Seniors are to sign up in the library by April 7.

DISCOVER UW BARRON COUNTY at their Open House on Tuesday, March 16. Campus tours begin at 6:15 p.m. and program begins at 7:00 p.m. See posting in the Student Services window for registration details.

ROCKWELL AUTOMATION IN LADYSMITH is accepting resumes for the position of Part Time Student Office Help for this summer. Seniors may stop in to Student Services for details.

ANY SOPHOMORE wishing to attend the Festival of Nations in St. Paul at the end of April must sign up with Miss Rabas or Mr. Novakofski by tomorrow.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS INTERESTED IN A MILITARY CAREER may sign up for a tour on March 18 at 9:30 am of the Armory in Ladysmith. Sign up in Student Services by March 15.

SENIORS MAJORING IN A TOOL & DIE OR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM are eligible to apply for the Lance Corporal Andrew G. Matus, USMC $1000 Scholarship. Pick up application material in Student Services. Application deadline is April 23.

THE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM will be playing this Friday night at Chippewa Falls High School against Thorp HS. The sign up for the fan's bus is in the high school office. The cost is $4 for admission and $6 to ride the fan's bus for $10 total. The bus departs Ladysmith High School at 4:30 this Friday.

HOSA MEMBERS COMPETING AT STATE need to see Mrs. Krings for your competition guidelines.

You will stay in the dorms at either St. Norberts in DePere in June, Edgewood College in Madison in July, or UW-LaCrosse in Lacrosse also in July. You will not only learn about business with hands on activities, but will be able to participate in fun activities as well! Mrs. Titera has applications for anyone interested. Hundreds of students from all over Wisconsin attend, so you would be wise to register by April 15. If you have any questions, please stop in and see Mrs. Titera.

BINGO- NEXT TUESDAY, MARCH 9 , we'll be going to play bingo at the Ladysmith Nursing Home. If you'd like to help, please complete a school activity pre-arranged and turn it into Mrs. Kuehn by Tuesday morning.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE APRIL 10 ACT is March 5. Late registration is through March 19. There is an extra fee for late registration. Juniors who have not previously taken the ACT should register for the April test. You may register on line at act.org or you may pick up a registration packet in Student Services. The next test date is June 12. Juniors should take the ACT prior to the fall of their senior year.

QUESTBRIDGE COLLEGE PREP SCHOLARSHIP: If you are a high school junior who has a strong academic record and an annual household income of less than $60,000 you are eligible to apply for the QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship to compete for admission to top-ranked colleges. The College Prep Scholarship awards selected students with full scholarships to college summer programs, an all expense paid campus visit, and an invitation to QuestBridge College Admissions Conferences at Stanford and Yale. Applications are available in Student Services.

SENIORS NEED TO TURN IN THEIR SENIOR SURVEY SHEET to Mr. Wagenaar today. If you need one, stop by Mr. Wagenaar’s room and pick one up.

NATIONAL FINANCIAL CAPABILITY CHALLENGE: Students who have had Personal Finance before are eligible to take the National Financial Capability Challenge; the Challenge was not available last year; however, the year before students did well and received personalized certificates. Students are also eligible to earn a medal for doing extremely well. If you are interested in taking this online exam, please stop in and sign up with Mrs. Titera this week.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL PLAYERS: There will be open gym this Sunday and the two following Sundays from 1-2pm. Also, UW Stout is putting on a softball clinic on March 7th. Interested players may pick up forms in the library this week.

THE LHS STUDENT COUNCIL is sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, January 14 beginning at 9am. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM on their 30-21 victory over Spooner on Friday. The Jills are now 5-0.

Congratulations to the Wrestling Team on their 73-6 win over Phillips High School. The only match we lost was as a result of a forfeit at 103#.
