General:

Tonight is a semi-final game for the WIAA Boys Basketball Regional. If the Jacks win, there will be a fan's bus to Rice Lake for the boys' WIAA Regional final tomorrow night. The cost for the bus ride is $5.00 and the ticket is $4.00.

Student Services

More scholarships have been listed and deadlines are coming up for many of these scholarships. You need to keep checking the Student Services Bulletin Board and stop into Student Services for more information.

Seniors should stop into Student Services as soon as possible and update us on where you are with your future plans.

The career lab will be closed today, March 4 from 8:00 A.M.–12:00 P.M. for testing.

Attention students attending medical discovery days. The trip to CVTC that was scheduled for this Thursday has been changed to next week Thursday, March 10. Please change the date on your pre-arranged sheet accordingly. Stop in student services if you have any questions.

Seniors, many of you have not stopped in for materials and assistance regarding the local scholarships that are due on March 10. This is a great opportunity to get financial assistance towards your college education. Remember recommendations are required for many of the scholarships so make sure you are providing them with plenty of time to get the necessary forms completed.

Lumberjack Day will be on Friday, March 11. Some events for the day include the Pancake Eating Contest, Class Relay Race, Best Dressed Lumberjack and Lumberjill, Dodge-ball, Volleyball, Bingo, Poker, Foose Ball, Hacky Sac, Chess, and Checkers. Sign-up sheets are posted on the Student Council Bulletin Board by the library.

General:

The LHS Fine Arts Department will present “The Lilies of the Field” this weekend. Performances are Friday and Saturday night at 7:30. Cost for students is $5 and adults is $7.

Seniors: The Jostens representative will be here today during the lunch hours in the cafeteria. Remember to take your order form and the $30.00 deposit with you when you go to the cafeteria..

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

High School boys and girls: Open gym at the HS has been set up for Sunday’s from 5:00 to 7:00 and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30. This schedule will run through November 14.

Athletics:

Boys basketball players: There is a mandatory boys basketball meeting after school today at 4:00 in Coach Effertz classroom at the Middle School. If you are playing basketball this season you must attend.

Meetings, practices, etc:

Attention Spanish Students: Your review session schedule is:
Spanish 1: Today after school at 3:35.
Spanish 2: Tomorrow before school at 7:45 and after school at 3:35.

This week’s backstage work schedule: Today is from 3:30 to 5:30 (plus daytime performance)
Thurs., Fri., and Sat. from 5:30 to the end
Sun. from 1:00 to 3:30 (Sunday is mandatory for all cast and crew)

Student Services:

The following schools will have representatives here on the following days:
WITC will be here this Friday (Nov.12)
CVTC is scheduled for next Monday (Nov. 15)
University of Wisconsin-Stout is scheduled for next Tuesday (Nov. 16)
Northern Michigan University-Thursday (Nov. 18)
If you are interested in meeting with any of these representatives, you need to stop by Student Services to set up a time to meet with them. Don’t miss out on these opportunities.

Also, if you are interested in the Marine Corp, there will representative in the cafeteria this Thursday during lunch.

WKCE Testing: Wed., Nov. 10, periods 2 & 3

There are two scholarships available: The Herb Kohl Scholarship is due this Friday (Nov. 12) and if you are applying for the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship you need to be working on it now as it requires some work to complete and it is due December 1st..

Seniors: If you are planning on attending a technical school or university, you should be working on completing your applications. If you need assistance, stop in Student Services.

Shop with a Cop has been set for December 11th (second Sat. in Dec.) from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Student volunteers are needed. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, stop in Student Services.

General:

If you have any questions about Spanish, come to one of these sessions to get the help you need to be successful in Spanish class.

Kevin Brown, a representative from Nicolet College, will be here Friday (Nov. 12) period 3,in room 711 to speak on Culinary Careers. There is room for a few more students and if you are interested in this presentation, you will need to get a pass from Student Services.

General:

On Monday, Nov.1, the Middle and High School Choral Music Departments will present their fall concert. You will be entertained by the 6, 7, and 8 grade and the High School choirs as well as the LMS Tone Chime Ensemble and the LHS Hand Bell Ensemble. The concert will start at 7:00 and should last less than 1 hour, giving you time to enjoy a great performance and get home in time for the last ¾ of Monday night football.

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and cell phones. This is not only a fund raiser but a part of “Make of Difference” which is a program to help keep the earth clean. Please bring your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones to Mr. Bunton’s room.

High School boys and girls: Open gym at the HS has been set up for Sunday’s from 5:00 to 7:00 and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30. The last day will be November 14.

Athletics:

The dancers who participated in the homecoming dance performance should stop by the Health room and pick up your picture and frame.

All athletes and team members leaving for the state cross country meet Friday are reminded that you must get your pre-arranged absence forms turned in.

All runners are reminded to turn in your uniforms and warm-ups. Make sure your name is on every item so you don’t get charged for it.

Cross country runners stop by Mrs. Olson’s room and pick up a flyer for the Award Banquet scheduled for Tues., Nov 2.

Any student interested in joining the Winter Dance Team can sign up in the library through the end of next week. There will be an organizational meeting before the fall break and only students who signed up will be invited. See Mrs. Olson if you have any questions.

You have until noon today to sign up in the HS Office for the fans bus going to Colby tonight. Cost is $10 which includes the bus ride and your admission ticket. The bus will leave the HS at 4:30.


Boy’s basketball team: A Nike representative will be here tomorrow in the cafeteria for you to order your team shoes. Pictures of the shoes and pricing will be posted on the HS Office window.

Meetings, practices, etc:

Members of the Hand Bell Ensemble will have a rehearsal Thursday at 7:15 to get ready for the fall concert next Monday evening.

There will be a HOSA meeting Thursday morning at 7:45 in the library. This is for all current and new members. The HOSA organization is open to all students in grades 9 to 12 and is a good way to get involved.

WITC- RL will be hosting a Fall Open House today from 1:00 to 5:00 in the Conference Center. There will be an opportunity to speak with Instructors and staff, along with tours of the building, classrooms, and new student housing.

--The University of Wisconsin Superior will hold a Fall Preview Day Friday, Oct. 29.
--Career tours at Chippewa Valley Technical College are now available with the next one scheduled for Tues., Nov. 2nd.

GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM is held each Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm at the elementary school. Any girl's interested in playing volleyball are welcome. You do NOT have to be on a high school team in order to participate. Come and join the fun!

ACT STUDY SESSIONS: There will be a Science ACT Test Prep on March 17 during periods 7 & 8. The English ACT Test Prep will be on March 31 during periods 1 & 2. The Math ACT Test Prep will be on April 8 during periods 6 & 7. Stop in at Student Services to pick-up your ACT Test Prep packet.

THE KIWANIS SENIOR BANQUET is April 14. All seniors are invited to attend. Seniors are to sign up in the library by April 7.

DISCOVER UW BARRON COUNTY at their Open House on Tuesday, March 16. Campus tours begin at 6:15 p.m. and program begins at 7:00 p.m. See posting in the Student Services window for registration details.

ROCKWELL AUTOMATION IN LADYSMITH is accepting resumes for the position of Part Time Student Office Help for this summer. Seniors may stop in to Student Services for details.

PM DETENTION for this week is in Mrs. Olson’s room.

ANY SOPHOMORE wishing to attend the Festival of Nations in St. Paul at the end of April must sign up with Miss Rabas or Mr. Novakofski by tomorrow.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS INTERESTED IN A MILITARY CAREER may sign up for a tour on March 18 at 9:30 am of the Armory in Ladysmith. Sign up in Student Services by March 15.

SENIORS MAJORING IN A TOOL & DIE OR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM are eligible to apply for the Lance Corporal Andrew G. Matus, USMC $1000 Scholarship. Pick up application material in Student Services. Application deadline is April 23.

THE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM will be playing this Friday night at Chippewa Falls High School against Thorp HS. The sign up for the fan's bus is in the high school office. The cost is $4 for admission and $6 to ride the fan's bus for $10 total. The bus departs Ladysmith High School at 4:30 this Friday.

HOSA MEMBERS COMPETING AT STATE need to see Mrs. Krings for your competition guidelines.

THERE WILL BE A HOSA MEETING tomorrow morning at 7:45 in Mr. Bunton’s room.

THERE WILL BE A JUNIOR PROM MEETING tomorrow morning at 7:40 in Mr. Groothousen’s room. All juniors interested in helping with prom need to attend.

Congratulations to the girls' basketball team for their defeat of Washburn last night in the first round of the W.I.A.A. state regional playoffs.
