Blood Drive a Success

The Ladysmith High School Student Council sponsored a Red Cross Blood Drive yesterday in the LHS gymnasium. Students, staff, and community volunteers gave over 40 units of blood. Congratulations students and staff.

There will be no after-school Forensics practice at all on Thursday this week. Please reschedule with Mrs.Chopp ASAP.

Registration for Forensics Sub-District is due next Tuesday. Be sure that Mrs. Chopp has the full title and author of your pieces, and the correct spelling of all group members’ names.

The Animal Shelter is raising money to build a new facility in Ladysmith. New t-shirts are being sold for this project. If you would like to buy a shirt to support this Fundraiser, College Success students will be available all week in the am and at B lunch. Cost of the shirts is $12.00. All sizes are available. See Nicole White or Jennifer Stone for more information.

Students and staff donating blood today remember to bring your photo ID with you or your driver’s license. Students who are 16 need a parental consent.

There will be an FCCLA meeting Friday morning at 7:45 in room 711.

Students that will be taking the ACT in February or April are encouraged to sign up for an ACT Prep session on Tuesday, January 25th at 8:l5 a.m. All students who are taking the ACT in February or April stop by Student Services and sign up. LHS math, science, and English departments will be conducting ACT Prep reviews during the school day prior to the test dates.

All 2nd semester CNA students there will be a meeting on Friday morning at 7:45 in the Health Care Academy Room at LHS. This is mandatory for all students taking the class. Please see Mrs. Krings if you are not able to attend. Bring all your paperwork and physicals if you have them.

More scholarships have been listed and deadlines are coming up for many of these scholarships. You need to keep checking the Student Services Bulletin Board and stop into Student Services for more information.

The Rusk County Community Foundation has (3) $500.00 grants available for a project which will fill a school or community need. The deadline for the application is February 11. See Student Services for the application.

The College Success students are holding a fundraiser today for the animal shelter. Our Local Animal Shelter runs solely on donations, and they would appreciate any donation you can give.

The LHS Student Council will be sponsoring the annual blood drive on Thursday, January 13, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. You must be 17 years of age or 16 years of age with a signed Red Cross parent/guardian consent form.
Students and staff are welcomed to give the gift of life. For more information please stop in the library. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Krings or Mrs. Diamond.

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

The College Success students will be holding a fundraiser on Thursday and Friday for the animal shelter. They will be bringing cats and dogs that have been adopted for you to meet. Please come and see the cats in the morning in the commons and the dogs during your lunch period they will be happy to see you. Every donation helps to assist the shelter in caring for all the animals. Our Local Animal Shelter runs solely on donations. This time of the year is the hardest for them having animals being dropped off in poor condition. So please drop by.

The LHS Student Council will be sponsoring the annual blood drive on Thursday, January 13, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Students and staff are welcomed to give the gift of life. You must be 17 years of age or 16 years of age with a signed Red Cross parent/guardian consent form, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and it must be 56 days since giving whole blood or 112 days since their last double red cell donation. Their are also requirements of the Red Cross regarding medications, vaccinations, tattoos and body piercing etc.
If you would like to sign up for giving blood the sign sheet will be in the library with Mrs. Peggar. Mrs. Peggar will have all the forms needed in the library. You must have a pre-arranged for giving the blood preferably during your study hall. If you have no free time discuss this with your teachers to miss class. It takes approximately 1 hour to give blood. Our goal this year is 50 units. If you plan to give blood start eating foods rich in iron and drink plenty of fluids. You will need your student ID or drivers license the day of the blood drive. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Krings or Mrs. Diamond.

Brittany Hess would like to thank all the Ladysmith Staff and students that contributed to the World Vision Fund raising. $111.00 dollars was collected and sent for medicine to help stock health clinics in Ethiopia.

OlS, St. Anthony’s, and St. Mary’s are starting a Youth Ministry. The first gathering is a Pizza Party on Saturday, January 8, at the OLS gym following the 6:00 PM Mass. Students in grades 7-12 are welcome.

OPEN CAMPUS is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20. Only students who have turned in an Open Campus Form, signed by their Parent/Guardian will be allowed to leave Campus during their lunch hour and/or study hall. Check with Mrs. Peggar in study hall to see if you have been approved.

STUDENTS WORKING OR DONATING BLOOD tomorrow for the American Red Cross Blood Drive are reminded to turn in prearranges to Mrs. Krings or Mrs. Diamond. If you are donating blood on Thursday, be sure to bring your photo ID, eat a good breakfast, and drink plenty of fluids this week.

MALES 17 AND 18 NEED TO REGISTER FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE within a month of their 18th birthday. This is a federal law, and those who fail to do so may be denied student loans, job training, government jobs, and driver’s licenses in most states. We want you to have all the facts, take your civic responsibility seriously, and make the most of every opportunity. For registration details, stop into Student Services.

INDIANHEAD COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY is looking for 10-12 students to help make a video clip promoting teens opposed to underage drinking. Students will have the opportunity to help create, participate or act in the clip. You may also help with effects or assist in the directing. Please see Student Services to sign up by Friday, January 15. This is an exciting opportunity for any students interested in performing arts, drama, broadcasting, and acting.

SENIORS ARE REMINDED to turn in Pancake Breakfast ticket money and unsold tickets to Mrs. Hamilton by tomorrow. You must turn in both money and your unsold tickets tomorrow.

A UW RIVER FALLS ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR will be here tomorrow to meet with students who want to learn more about UW River Falls and what it has to offer. Interested students need to sign up in Student Services by Wednesday morning.

A FINANCIAL AID MEETING FOR SENIORS AND PARENTS will be held in the LHS auditorium on Wednesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. A financial aid expert will walk you through the process of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and discuss scholarship opportunities. It is helpful to bring materials needed to complete the FAFSA form.

ONE-ON-ONE FINANCIAL AID ADVISING SESSIONS are also available on Wednesday, February 17; 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sign up in Student Services.

ALL HEALTH CARE ACADEMY COLLEGE SUCCESS students not teaching at the elementary today should report to the health room.

WISCONSIN INDIANHEAD TECHNICAL COLLEGE – RICE LAKE CAREER DAY for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors is Thursday, February 25. Experience two career sessions of your choice, hands-on awareness of WITC programs, and interaction with college instructors and students. Register in Student Services by Friday, January 22.
