ANNOUNCEMENTS
Feb. 16, 2011
General:

The Bear Club is looking for your used printer cartridges and unwanted cell phones. These items can be taken to Mr. Bunton’s room.

Seniors interested in the NUE Outstanding student scholarship should see Mr. Jansen to get the appropriate form and information. This scholarship needs to be completed today.

There will be a Student Council Meeting tomorrow at 7:45 AM in the Library to discuss Lumberjack Day.

ATTENTION SPANISH STUDENTS:
There will be review sessions this week. Spanish 1, your sessions will be TODAY at 7:45 AM and 3:35 PM. Spanish 2, your sessions will be on Thurs. at 7:45 AM and 3:35 PM. The AM sessions will be in the cafeteria. Make arrangements now to attend one or both of these sessions.

This is a reminder for students participating in “The Price of Life” next Tues., Feb. 22. You need to complete your pre-arranged form and turn it in. The financial literacy event will be third and fourth hour in the LHS auditorium with students from Flambeau and Bruce schools.

Softball girls interested in attending a one day softball clinic at UW Stout on Sun. March 6, can pick up clinic information in the office this week. Forms must be in by Feb. 28.

Anyone interested in being in a commercial for the B.E.S.T. Program please see Mr. Yudes as soon as possible.

Student Services

More scholarships have been listed and deadlines are coming up for many of these scholarships. You need to keep checking the Student Services Bulletin Board and stop into Student Services for more information.

Career Lab is closed from 10:00 – 11:00 AM this morning.

Students who signed up for the Master’s Driving School Summer Program, please stop by Student Services to pick up your packet.

There will be a HOSA Meeting today at 7:45 AM for all HOSA members in the library. Anyone interested in competing at State should be there!

Seniors – remember there is another opportunity for help on the FAFSA, Financial Aid Packet, at WITC this Saturday, Feb. 19.

Students remember the deadline for Youth Options is March 1.

Seniors this is a reminder that local scholarships are open and due on March 10. This is a great opportunity to get financial assistance towards your college education. Stop by student services to get help and application material. Remember recommendations are required for many of the scholarships so make sure you are providing them with plenty of time to get the necessary forms completed.

High School Dance Team please be at LMS dressed and ready to perform by 4:15 today Tues. Feb. 15. Practice this week is Wed. & Thurs. after school in the cafeteria.

ANNOUNCEMENTS – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28


THE JUNIOR CLASS PROM will be held on Saturday, May 15, from 8-midnight in the high school gym. This year's theme is Once Upon a Time. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased in the office before school and during lunch starting Monday, May 3. Pictures will be taken by Connie Thompson. Anyone bringing a non-LHS guest must sign him/her up in the library by Wednesday, May 5, at 3:30.

SUMMER SCHOOL APPLICATIONS, including Environmental Challenge and Drivers Education applications, are available in Student Services. Applications are due May 7th.

AP EXAM PAYMENT: Juniors and seniors who have signed up to take an AP Exam in May need to pay the fee for the test by this Friday, April 30. If the payment is not received you will not be able to test and you will still owe $15.

THE MOVIE MAKING PROCESS WORKSHOP ; Script Writing Filming and Editing is Saturday, May 8th at LHS. Whether you have a curiosity in the process of making a movie, an interest in making home videos, a desire to engage in the community, or just want a fun and educational experience this workshop is for you. Registration forms are available in Student Services.

AN ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR FROM CHIPPEWA VALLEY TECHNICAL COLLEGE will be here on Tuesday, May 4 at 9:30 am to meet with students who have an interest in attending technical college. If you want to learn more about Chippewa Valley Technical College and its programs, sign up in Student Services to meet with the admissions counselor on Tuesday, May 4.

SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES AT MARION COLLEGE IN FOND DU LAC this summer include Business Camp, June 20-24 and Criminal Justice Camp, June 21-23. The Business Camp introduces you to the challenges of being successful in the business world; from team-building and group activities, to a simulation of running your own $40 million company. The Criminal Justice Camp participants will discover and practice a variety of techniques from surveillance and hostage situations to crime scene investigation. Registration deadline is May 20. Camp information and registration forms are available in Student Services.

ANY GIRLS WANTING TO PLAY IN THE VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE THIS SUMMER should contact Coach Peggar and pay the $10.00 fee by Thurs. April 29th. You do not have to be on the high school team in order to participate. All high school girls are welcomed and encouraged to come out and join the fun!! See Coach Peggar for more details.

FOOTBALL MEETING: There is a meeting in the auditorium today during the activity period for students interested in playing football in the fall.

GIRLS GOLF MEETING: There will be Girl’s Golf informational meeting during activity period today in the 400 computer lab next to Mr. Frank’s room. This is for girls interested in joining the golf team next year. We will see you then.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 2010 HOSA COMPETETORS who participated in competitions in Wisconsin Dells. This year Ladysmith High School has five students who have qualified for national competition held in Orlando, Florida June 23-26. They are: Emily Nelson-Knowledge Test in Pharmacology, 1st place; Lauren Neisinger-Nursing Assisting, 1st place; and Rachel Helgeson, Melissa Nelson and Will Haasl-Health Education, 2nd place. Great job to all!

MATH ACT STUDY SESSION: Math ACT Test Prep is Thursday, April 8, during periods 6 & 7. Stop in at Student Services to sign up and to pick-up your ACT Test Prep packet.

JUMP RIVER ELECTRIC is looking for sophomores and juniors to represent Ladysmith High School at the Youth Leadership Congress on July 7-9 at the UW River Falls campus. Challenge yourself with taking part in hands-on workshops aimed at developing leadership skills. If you are interested, you might have the opportunity to serve on the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association’s Statewide Youth Board and may even win a trip to Washington D.C. Details are available in Student Services.

A REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS of the opportunity to participate in a group before the end of the school year. Group topics can range from future planning, volunteering, AODA concerns, family issues, friend concerns, to stress or organization. Stop by Student Services to sign up or to discuss a group that you are interested in. Groups will be held during study halls or before and after school with Mrs. Opelt.

THE TIME OUT SHELTER is looking for volunteers to work at a dance on April 17 from 5-10 pm. They also need students to make decorations for the dance. The theme is the 50’s & 60’s. This is a great way to acquire community service!

SUMMER DRIVERS EDUCATION : Freshmen who are taking Drivers Education this summer need to sign up in Student Services.

HOSA T-SHIRTS FOR STATE are available. If you are going to the state HOSA competition, you may purchase a shirt for $10 from Mr. Bunton.

THE FORENSICS TEAM would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Hat Day fundraiser. The prize for ugliest hat went to Brad Pauley, with honorable mentions to Mrs. Weissinger and Mrs. VanDoorn.

SENIOR FORENSICS TEAM MEMBERS must see Mrs. Chopp ASAP today to finalize the color of the team shirts. If any other Forensics members did not turn in a vote or an order yesterday, this also needs to be done ASAP.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE A 2010 FORENSICS T-SHIRT, please see Mrs. Chopp today to order. Cost is $15.

DRESS CODE: With the temperatures going up and the days getting warmer, students are reminded of dress code requirements. Clothing must be appropriately fitting. Clothing must cover the back, shoulders, chest and midriff. Spaghetti straps, tube tops, halter tops, low cut clothing, short shorts, see through items are not permitted. Teachers may remove a student from class, or refer a student to the office for dress code violations. A student may be required to change, wear an over-shirt or sweat pants to remain in school for the remainder of the school day.

VOLLEYBALL OPEN GYM HAS BEEN CANCELLED: There will not be open gym for girl's volleyball on Sunday due to the holiday.
