General:

Health Care Academy students: if you are interested in ordering a HCA jacket, you should see Mr. Bunton as soon as possible.


Athletics:
The volleyball team will play Hurley at home next week Tuesday, Oct. 19th.

Activities/Clubs:
All cast members of the fall musical drama production should pick up a rehearsal schedule from Mr. Novakofski.

Student Services:
Career tours at Chippewa Valley Technical College are now available. The next one is Tues., Nov. 2nd. Check out the Student Services bulletin board for more information.

Reminder that the Campus Preview Day at UW-Barron County is today.

Also, a representative from the UW-Barron will be coming on next week Tuesday, Oct. 19th, to visit with prospective students. He will be in the career lab from 11:30 to 1:00.

Seniors: Be sure to check the window by Student Services for more scholarships. It is updated when new scholarships arrive and some of these scholarships have a deadline for when it needs to be turned in.

The new Forensics topics have been announced for the Storytelling, Public Address, Special Occasion Speech, and Moments in History categories. If you are interested in these topics, see Mrs. Chopp for specific information.

A very solid team effort was shown by all the Volleyball teams last evening. The Varsity lost 3-2, but played very competitively. The B and C teams lost 2-1in very close matches. Keep up the hard work Jills! The teams would like to thank the Band for playing at our home matches this season. They would also like to thank the students who come out and support our volleyball players.

At last nights cross country meet Andrew Hetke ran a time of 18:27 giving him a 7th place finish out of 85. Joel Wojtyna medaled with a 12 place finish with a time of 19:24. Mitch Livingston ran a time of 19:54. Coming in 4th was Dan Beck with a time of 21:58, followed by Erik Nelson with a time of 22:14. Noland Bullard ran a 24:33 finishing 6th and was followed by Brandon Davila with 25:21. Rob Hanson ran a 29:24. The Jacks came in 4th out of 10 schools. For the girls team, Andi Ostenso ran a great time of 14:55. Brea Daggett came in 2nd running a 20:36 time. Jessica Luckman secured 53 out of 82 runners. Katherine Kester ran a 21:38 time.

Juniors interested in taking the PSAT need to sign-up Student Service. The test day is Wed., Oct 13 and cost is $14.00. Deadline to sign up is Sept 30th.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship is now available. This scholarship is open to all students in Grades 9 thru 12. The theme this year is: “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” For more information on this great scholarship opportunity—stop in Student Services. Also, other Scholarships are starting to come in, make sure you stop by Student Services and see what is posted.

LHS Homecoming Dance will be held from 9 PM until midnight after the homecoming game. The cost for admission is $7.00 however if you bring a canned food item, the admission is only $5.00. The dance is semi formal. If you are bringing a non LHS student, you must sign them up in the library on later than this Friday by 3:30.

There will be a homecoming dance team practice tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 in the gym. Be stretched and ready to practice.

Reminder to those who ordered homecoming t-shirts: The payment of $10 per shirt must be turned into Student Services, Kayla Nyseth, or Tori Ostenso as soon as possible.

LHS Handbell Ensemble will be holding our first rehearsal tomorrow morning at 7:15. You will be gathering to decide on the rehearsal days, get your bell assignments, and get acquainted with the equipment and procedures for being involved in this ensemble. Be on time and let’s get going on the year!

There will be a short meeting for everyone who tried out for Wily Wonka right after school tonight n the choir room. If you are unable to attend see Mr. Novakofski or Mr. Jensen ASAP. This will be a short meeting.


Sprit week is next week and the activities will begin. The dress up days are as follows:
Monday: “miss match day”
Tuesday: “gangster day”
Wednesday: “extreme weather day”
Thursday: girls will be “fairytale day” and the guys will have “redneck day”
And Friday is show your school spirit with “purple and gold day”.
And don’t forget the powder-puff football game that will be played next Friday on homecoming. If you are interested in participating, you need to sign up on the student council bulletin board located outside of the library.

Sept 10, 2010 ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Swim Team, Trident Coop, successfully defeated Rice Lake by a score of 122 – 47. They won all three of the relays and had a 1-2 finish in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. The medley relay is an all freshman team consisting of Mariah Stoll, Kelsey Podgornik, Jamie Fuse, and Erin Molstad. They had 1 – 3 finishes in the 100 fly and 100 free which were important to the victory and score. Our swimmers won every event.

At the request of several students who were unable to attend the after school tryouts, there will be a special play tryout session next week Tuesday at 7:30 AM in the auditorium.

Juniors interested in taking the PSAT should see Student Service to sign-up. The test day is Wed., Oct 13 and cost is $14.00. Deadline to sign up is Sept 30th.

Seniors interested in early graduation need to see Mrs. Opelt for an application. Seniors remember to schedule your senior meeting with Mrs. Opelt.

Congratulations to the Cross Country team for their awesome performance at Cameron last night. Senior Andy Hetke won the boys race with a time of 18:21. The boys team took 2nd place overall with Joel Wotyna coming in 7th place with a time of 18:59followed by Trey Webb with a time of 19:55. Mitch Livingston finished in 13 place with a time of 20:12. For the girls team Andi Ostenso won the girls race with a time of 18:52. Brea Daggett ran 26:27 and Katherine Kester ran a 26:33 with Jessica Luckman running at a time of 27:45. The girls team is still looking for runners—if interested see Mrs. Olson.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, will be the first opportunity to visit the Ladysmith Nursing Home to help with bingo. Please see Mrs. Kuehn in Rm 330 or Student Services for a school activity pre-arranged form.

School pictures will be Sept 14. There are additional packets are in the Library.

The Pep Club will be sponsoring a dance Friday, Sept. 17, following the football game. The dance will be held in the Cafeteria until 11:00 pm. Admission is $3.00 per person and all students are invited to attend. Any non-LHS guest will need to be signed up in the HS office by Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 PM.

Sept 9, 2010 ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Students that have signed up for the Homecoming Dance performance will have a short meeting tomorrow at 7:45 AM in the Health Room to discuss the first practice. If still interested, today is the last day to sign up.

Tryouts for the fall musical, “Willy Wonka” will be tonight at 6:00pm in the LHS auditorium, and also after school tonight at the Middle School. If unable to make any of these see Mr. Novakofski or Mr. Jenson. If you are interested in helping with working backstage, sign up with Mr. Novakofski or Mrs. Lawrence.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, will be the first opportunity to visit the Ladysmith Nursing Home to help with bingo. Please see Mrs. Kuehn in Rm 330 or Student Services for a school activity pre-arranged form.

If anyone would like purchase a CC shirt, you can get an order form from Mrs. Olson and you will have until tomorrow to order your shirts.

Sept 7, 2010 ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Any HS student interested in being a part of the homecoming dance routine should sign up in the library. Practices will be evenings and Sundays. See Mrs. Olson for details and questions. This is a performance for Homecoming only.

Tryouts for the fall musical, “Willy Wonka” will be tomorrow, Sept. 8, after school and Thurs., Sept. 9, at 6:00pm in the LHS auditorium, and also Thurs., Sept 9 after school at the Middle School. If unable to make any of these see Mr. Novakofski or Mr. Jenson. If you are interested in helping with working backstage, sign up with Mr. Novakofski or Mrs. Lawrence.

If anyone has any enrollment papers, please turn them into the office as soon as possible.

The C team volleyball players are reminded to meet on the balcony immediately after school today.

There will be a Student Council meeting, Thurs, Sept. 9, at 7:45 in the Library.

There will be a BEAR Club meeting in Mr. Bunton’s room-room 610-tomorrow morning at 7:55.

Congrats to the Ladysmith Cross Country team that traveled to the Spooner scrimmage. Andrew Hekte had a personal best time, as did Nolan Bullard, Rob Hanson, Erik Nelson, and Charlie Coughnenour, as well as new runner Dan Beck.

The girls team continues to run well, Andi Ostenso won the girls race to
continue her winning streak. Katherine Kester, Brea Daggett, and Jessica
Luckman all had outstanding races. The next race is at Cameron on Thur September 9. All supporters welcome. Any students wishing to join cross country, it's not too late. Contact Anne Olson.
